Deanea LeFlore from Houston, Texas participated in a European Union Visitors study tour program in Brussels, BELGIUM for one week in June. Deanea met with leaders from the European Commission.

Member Pamela Eyring is the subject of an article "Why protocol and etiquette aren't the same." Read the story in the Gulf News. Ms. Eyring is President and Director of The Protocol School of Washington and was invited to conduct training programs for the Protocol Department of The Ruler's Court for the government of Dubai. Staff professionals Mr. Ahmad Binali Binsalem Al-Zaabi and Ms. Huda Sultan Al-Meaini are also PDI-POA members.
- President Chris Young started the new year with a visit to Oklahoma City, OK. The PDI-POA Oklahoma members arranged a meeting with the newly elected Secretary of State,

- On 1 July 2010, Her Excellency Ms. Quentin Bryce AC, Governor-General of
the Commonwealth of Australia, announced that one of our own, Thomas E. Corcoran, was to be awarded the Honorary Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) “for service to the Australian Government as Manager of Travel and Visits Liaison at the Australian Embassy in Washington, D.C.” What a terrific, well-deserved honor for Tom and his family!
Tom’s investiture ceremony was, 15 October, 2010 in Washington, D.C.

2010
- The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games begins September 25, 2010 and is hosted in Lexington, Kentucky. Be sure to tune into local progamming to watch the world championships in eight equestrian disciplines. Over 50 countries will be represented, along with high level dignitaries attending. Board Member, Donna Moloney leads the effort on overall protocol planning for the event. Board Member, Florine Postell is volunteering on the protocol committee.
- Elga Sharpe, Chief of Protocol for the Mayor of Los Angeles, was involved in the recent visit of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel to Los Angeles, California. German Missions Website

- If you didn't receive the weekly email entitled: "Special Attention to Your Consular Corps," here are a couple of photos from the event. "In Georgia, we enjoy an extraordinarily robust consular community,"

says. "Each spring for one-quarter of a century, my state has taken those consuls general and trade commissioners, who can spare three days of their busy schedule, on a tour of a region of Georgia outside of metropolitan Atlanta."

- This series of photographs is from a breakfast hosted by the Governor of Georgia to welcome ten new heads of mission who arrived in Atlanta in the past six months. Submitted by Chris Young, Chief of Protocol, State of Georgia.
- The French Ambassador was in Atlanta to award his country ’s highest order of merit, the Legion of Honor, to 10 WWII U.S. veterans who participated in the campaign to liberate Normandy in the summer of 1944. PDI-POA president, Chris Young, spoke at the occasion. The Atlanta Journal- Constitution
- PDI-POA Board Member, Karen Bryk has been working non-stop for months on protocol assignments for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Seen here with her boss, the recently appointed Premier of Manitoba, Honourable Greg Selinger. Karen is also kind enough to show us how she relaxes and travels- with style! The Games began February 12th and ended February 28th. Well done, good soldier! And still to come, the Paralympic Games in March.


- Starting off the new year, Road Shows were conducted January 7-8 by President Chris Young and Board Member Donna Moloney in the following cities: Lexington, KY; Louisville, KY; and Cincinnati, OH. On the agenda: "Why a High Standard of Protocol is Necessary for Diplomatic and Business Success", and updates on the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, a 16-day event in beginning September 25, 2010.
2009
- Member Diane Brown was the Keynote Speaker at the Women of Excellence Awards Banquet in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- Member Nancy Olson passed away in November. She will be remembered for her dedicated work in protocol and sister cities in the Jacksonville, Florida community.
PDI-POA founder, Ann Beard has this to say, "Nancy Olson was a true protocol professional. One of our first Board members, Nancy was involved in PDI-POA from its inception. At our Conferences, she could always be found sitting in the front row... taking notes, asking questions, actively listening and participating." Ann continues,"Her "can-do" spirit, strong work ethic, and warm personality will certainly be missed on the many international boards upon which she so graciously served. She will remain in our hearts. We are grateful for her joyful participation in PDI-POA, and we will always remember her with great fondness and respect."
- Irma Bridgeford, member in Tampa, Florida, had a great profile in the local Tampa Bay area newspaper: St. Petersburg Times
- PDI-POA is cited as President Chris Young is quoted in the November issue of The Washington Diplomat. The story's focus: "We All Make Mistakes"
- Karen Bryk, shares the news that her boss, Gary Doer, Premier of Manitoba, resigned one day, and the next was presented to the nation as the next Canadian Ambassador to the U.S.: CBCNews.ca
- The White House presented Ambassador Nancy Brinker with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in a ceremony August 16. President Obama presented the highest civilian award to 16 honorees at the White House. Amb. Brinker is an Honorary Member of PDI-POA. Congratulations to Amb. - Jenniffer Braynen of the Bahamas shares a wonderful synopsis of the recently celebrated holiday, Independence Day. Read the story.
- President Chris Young was interviewed for the Webzine, GlobalAtlanta.com. - Donna Moloney from Lexington, Kentucky shares the following articles and photos regarding a once-in-a-lifetime event which she has significant responsibility planning, the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. "I just wanted to share a couple of photos of my boss, Dr. Pearse Lyons -- protocol and “handling” at its best," said Donna. "In the timeframe of just four days (May 16 through the 19th) Dr. Lyons visited with the Queen at Windsor (the company is sponsoring the Alltech FEI European Jumping and Dressage Championships at Windsor Castle, August 25 - 30), and we hosted Muhammad Ali at our 25th Annual International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium!" Alltech - Muhammad Ali Center Fund.

- April 7th Chris Young, President, was guest speaker for The Protocol School of Washington's recent Protocol Officer Training Course graduation. Congratulations to the 19 graduates.

- David Lee, Taiwan's representative to Canada, has been voted the second most influential foreign dignitary in the country, according to a Canadian publication. The China Post
- New White House Social Secretary, Julianna Smoot, announced. Ms. Smoot replaces Desiree Rogers, who resigned after considerable criticism over the lack of oversight of arriving guests at the Official Dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Denver Post ; Washington Post

- The Commemoration Ceremony of the Twentieth Anniversary of His Majesty The Emperor's Accession to the Throne: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan

Manmohan Singh and Mrs. Gursharan Kaur are the first to be honored with an Official State Visit to the White House. An official State Visit allows the President of the United States to have a private meeting in the Oval Office, additional working meetings for staff, provide an official visit to the Department of State and honor the visiting Head of State with an official state dinner hosted by the President. Special programs are designed for the spouse and family members during the visit. The Head of State and traveling staff reside at the official guest house of the President, the Blair House. The links below provide coverage and information regarding the occasion. Technology in the 21st century provides live coverage on various Web sites, allowing for public access and transparency.
