Virtual Events

We are excited to add virtual events to the educational and professional development opportunities provided to PDI-POA members and friends!

Educational Webinars

Education of protocol professionals is an integral part of the mission of PDI-POA. Webinars are part of our expanding professional development and member engagement opportunities. They include educational presentations by featured speakers, along with a forum for viewers to ask questions of leading experts of protocol and diplomacy. To promote the instructional environment of the webinar, audio and video interaction for attendees is disabled, with interaction happening through the chat and Q&A functions of the Zoom Webinar platform.

Webinars are open to members of PDI-POA as a benefit of membership. Non-members are invited to attend as well; the non-member registration fee is $45 per person.

Each webinar session will be recorded and made available to PDI-POA members through the members-only Video Library. For non-member registrants, the recording will be available for 30 days after the session via a password-protected link that will be shared after the conclusion of the webinar.

Our next webinar will be hosted in October 2021. For information on our webinars, join our mailing list or apply to be a member of PDI-POA.

Fireside Chats and Roundtable Discussions

Fireside Chats and Roundtable Discussions provide virtual education and engagement opportunities for PDI-POA members to learn from featured speakers on a topic relevant to our industry and to participate in group discussion and information sharing with colleagues about the topic. Participation will be limited to promote active participation, productive conversations, and continued education. These sessions are open only to PDI-POA members, and are planned to allow for candid discussions amongst colleagues as we share best practices and areas of learning. To promote this environment, these virtual events are not recorded.

Details of upcoming Fireside Chats and Roundtable Discussions will be shared in member email communications and on our private Facebook Group. The events will also appear on our Events Calendar.

PDI-POA Member Gatherings

We host regular casual virtual gatherings that members can join to meet one another, share best practices and learn from each other’s experiences, talk about topics of common interest, build relationships, and just have some time together to talk as friends and colleagues!  We will open a few chat rooms that attendees can move in and out of as they wish, and members are welcome to attend for the whole hour or just drop in when you are available.

Dates of upcoming Member Gatherings can be found on our Events Calendar, and information on how to attend the gatherings can be accessed in the Member Portal.

Protocol Prose Book Club

The Protocol Prose Book Club meets several times each year. This members-only event provides opportunities to connect through shared readings and gather in a virtual setting to discuss what we have learned, reflect on the ideas presented in the book, and ask questions on the topics covered. Recently, the Book Club has expanded to include the authors in the conversation. Authors discuss the book’s central themes, provide their personal perspective, and share insights about their writing process. During the sessions featuring the author, a moderator will lead the question and answer session to facilitate the conversation among readers and the author.

The next meeting of the Book Club will be on Tuesday, 17 August 20215:00pm EDT, and will feature PDI-POA member Mark Verheul discussing the newest edition of his book, co-authored with Gilbert Monod de Froideville, An Expert's Guide to International Protocol. Members, please watch your emails and our private Facebook Group for details on how to participate!

Virtual International Protocol Education Forum

The 20th Annual PDI-POA Forum will be held 19-21 July 2021, and will be a fully virtual event.

Plenary sessions and your choice of breakout sessions will be viewable for registered participants. We are working on a system to allow those registered to go back and watch or re-watch any of virtually-broadcast sessions after the Forum is over. Please check the Annual Education Forum page for updates including registration rates, and additional details of the schedule.
